FILM: OUR DAY OUT (1977)

Whiston-born playwright Willy Russell (pictured) penned this much-loved comedy-drama, and the BBC filmed it as part of the Play for Today TV series in 1977. The story of a Liverpool school's day out in Wales, it provokes all the laughter and tears we've come to expect from its creator, whose other successes include Educating Rita, Blood Brothers and Shirley Valentine.

Prescot actor Bill Moores, who plays the coach driver in Our Day Out, will introduce this special screening with a short talk about his memories of the filming. Bill is a much-loved local character and is known nationwide for his recurring role as Cedric in ITV's Liverpool-set sitcom Watching (1987-1993).
