Not Hammer's finest hour, this is a decidedly pedestrian tale of insanity and demon possession in an aristocratic family. Hardy is the head of the household who keeps his grown-up children (Briant and Hills) imprisoned, for fear they will inherit his propensity to madness. Patrick Magee stands out as the alchemist who claims to be able to cure them.
Extensive filming took place in the familiar location of Black Park.
