Derek Francis

Portly British character actor who appeared in only three Hammer movies: As Squire Anthony Cobtree in Captain Clegg (aka Night Creatures, 1962, pictured right); as the Russian innkeeper whose dying wife is cured by Christopher Lee's mystic peasant in the opening scenes of Rasputin, the Mad Monk (1965, below); and finally as a bishop in To the Devil a Daughter (1976), the studio's final horror film.

Like so many other Hammer actors of that era, he was a recurring figure in the film and TV establishment during the 1960s and '70s, with film appearances including The Tomb of Ligeia (1965), Scrooge (1970) and a succession of Carry On comedies, and TV roles including Danger Man, Man in a Suitcase, The New Avengers and Up Pompeii.
