The Mummy (1959)
Directed by Terence Fisher
Starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Yvonne Furneaux, Eddie Byrne, Felix Aylmer, George Pastell, Michael Ripper, George Woodbridge, Harold Goodwin, Denis Shaw
SYNOPSIS: An archaeologist desecrates the tomb of an ancient Egyptian princess, and pays with his life.
COMMENTS: The Mummy's chief glory is its visual impact. It is filmed in an array of beautiful, fantastical pastel colours by cinematographer Jack Asher. The central image of the Mummy, Kharis of ancient Egypt, is not easily forgotten; Roy Ashton's makeup easily rivals the iconic creation of Jack Pierce in the 1932 movie starring Boris Karloff.
